"Lassie looked brilliant, in part because the farm family she lived with was made up of idiots. Remember? One of them was always getting pinned under the tractor, and Lassie was always rushing back to the farmhouse to alert the other ones. She'd whimper and tug at their sleeves, and they'd always waste precious minutes saying things: "Do you think something's wrong? Do you think she wants us to follow her? What is it, girl?", etc., as if this had never happened before, instead of every week. What with all the time these people spent pinned under the tractor, I don't see how they managed to grow any crops whatsoever. They probably got by on federal crop supports, which Lassie filed the applications for."

LACY -- Fall 2004.  This lovely girl is a 4yo S/W who was a stray in Lake Jackson.  She's a pretty girl, but her coat was dry and short as though she had been kept outside, but also complicated by heartworm disease. She completed her treatment with no side effects, and was then spayed. Her coat is coming in and will glorious. She loves everyone: has a delightful personality and can't get or give enough love. Lacy was adopted by her foster family and had her forever home just in time for Christmas. Then the following spring, she got a wonderful new Sheltie sister when her family adopted Bridget.
LACEY (formerly Katie) -- Fall 2005.  This adorable little 3yo S/W girl came into the program after she was finally rescued in Katy after being 'out there' for five months. She had hooks and was infested with fleas, but otherwise in relatively good shape for all she had been through. She was promptly fostered by one of our veteran volunteers and adoptive homes who fell in love with her. The family had been looking for a petite female Sheltie for their lovely daughter, and they knew the first day that Lacey was home. She is doing beautifully with her new family and three Sheltie siblings.
LADDY (formerly Gavin) -- Spring 2002. Gorgeous 5yo, Classic S/W found in Humble. Terrific coat and full white collar. The finder kept him four days and put up flyers; unbelievably, no one ever claimed this beautiful boy. Laddy did have HW disease, but completed the treatment with no side effects. Gavin is great with kids and other dogs; very sweet, outgoing, and gentle; has basic obedience and shakes hands; adores plush and squeaky toys. Laddy has been adopted by HSS volunteers, Susan and Scott, who fell in love with him while fostering and now call him Laddy Boy: they are so thrilled with him and his unconditional love. He is safe now and owes a lot to his rescuer as well as his new family who all worked hard to make sure he would never be lost again. Laddy Boy is already bonded with and devoted to his mom and dad, who are continuing to foster for HSS and recently also adopted Lily
LADY 1 -- Fall 2001. Found in Tomball and relinquished by finder: 2-3yo beautiful Mahogany S/W with partial blaze, nice markings. Lady came into the program very healthy; she is sweet, gentle, alert, and lively. She was adopted by her foster mom, veteran HSS volunteer, Dorie, who fell in love with her from the first day. She is happily playing with new Sheltie sister, Cristy, and enjoying the life of a Sheltie home she was on her journey toward all along. She and her sister and mom came to the Third Anniversary Picnic where we snapped this picture. They have since moved to Florida and a wonderful new job for mom. Though we miss them terribly, we hear from Dorie, and they are all doing fabulously well.
LADY 2 -- Spring 2002. An OR to Brazoria County Shelter, Lady is a 5yo S/W with a great coat and full white collar. Our volunteers immediately got this girl out and into our program. Owners claimed she didn't like kids, but she has been wonderful with kids in our program. The owners neglected her, and Lady had to go through HW treatment, which she successfully completed with no side effects.  She loves people, toys, and lots of attention; everyone who has worked with her pronounces Lady a complete angel. Lady now has her forever home with HSS members, Wayne and Sandra, and she has settled right in with her new family and Sheltie brother, Bailey; has had trips to the pet store for her new toys, and is adored as she deserves to be.
LADY 3 -- Fall 2002.  2 1/2 yo (born May 1999), OR from Manville.  Although young and healthy, sweet Lady was very scared and timid because she had been living outside and didn't understand what had suddenly happened to her. But in her loving foster home, Lady did beautifully, relaxing, enjoying her new life and getting along well with her Sheltie friend. Lady had an ulcer on her back that troubled us; we had it removed and biopsied: the test results came back negative. It was probably from an old injury because she was being jumped by a larger dog at her former residence. She  healed nicely  Lady has been adopted by a family who had lost their beloved Sheltie and were feeling the void that this little girl is helping them with as they give her the first real home she's every had. Her personality has totally changed: she loves her kids and grandkids; barks, spins, and plays happily. Like many dogs, she loves to chew paper, and she carries the kids' stuff toys around while they are away. Her mom pronounces her the very best girl they all adore.
LANCE (formerly Tony) -- Summer 2000. Beautiful 3-4yo small shaded S/W, Lance was found in Tomball. The finder was kind enough to have his vaccinations done and place him on HW preventive after he tested negative; then she contacted us to bring him into the program and complete his vetting. He is whip smart, quickly picked up on house training and basic obedience.  Lance is very sweet with lots of Sheltie kisses and bonding: he seems very grateful to be safely in a Sheltie home that understands him and is responding with Sheltie smiles. Lance has been adopted by his new mom, who fell in love with him on the web site and quickly took him into his new forever home.
LANCE 2 -- Summer 2004 This beautiful mahogany sable was an OR in Baytown; family took him in so he didn't have to go to the pound; then called us for assistance. He is 4yo, active, alert, and friendly; likes to play ball and cuddle. He kissed his rescuers all the way home from the shelter. Lance had an elevated white count from a mild infection and was on antibiotics for a few days. He is fine now and so delighted his foster family that they adopted him.
LAREDO -- Fall 2003. Found in Spring: small, adorable 2-3yo, mahogany sable boy. He was in rough shape: with 'raging' heartworms, UTI, and skin infections; had obviously been neglected a very long time though he is very sweet and snuggly despite how he's been treated in the past. Despite all he had been through, Laredo breezed through HW treatment w/o a single cough, putting on a bit of needed weight w/ good nutrition. He is a small tornado and resented being restricted during treatment. He loves everyone equally: cats, dogs, people, stuffed animals. Laredo is now adopted to a family who totally fell in love with him and has become their tiny treasure. They also adopted tiny little Cybil, so Laredo now has his very own Sheltie sister.
LIBBY -- Summer 2002. S/W OR due to family illness, the beloved Libby came into the program a 3yo; extremely healthy, housetrained, and full of fun. Foster family found her an energetic, sweet girl who loves to play fetch. Beautiful Libby's new family are delighted with her; and she is enjoying playing ball with the kids and going for walks with her mom.
LILY -- 4yo shaded S/W OR from the West side. Adorable little girl with tipped ears, blaze, and full collar. She strikes poses in the clinic because she's just too much for herself; captures everyone's hearts. She's so cute that she created quite a stir on the web site, but her foster home had been wanting a girl to join their Laddy Boy in their family, and Lily moved right into both their home and their hearts.  She is a joy every day with her happy personality and perfect Sheltie spins: hilarious and loving, wanting tummy rubs on demand when she's not whirling around and finding more things to do in her busy little life.
LOGAN -- Fall 2003. OR from the Woodlands because the family no longer had time for him, Logan is a lovely 3yo S/W neutered male with full white collar and beautiful blue coloring in his eyes. His foster mom says he is house trained, but also learned to use her doggy door; accepts crating when she is away from the house. He loves rawhide bones and toys. Logan is high energy, very intelligent, sweet, and affectionate, gets along great with her dogs and kitty. He was happily adopted by his new family who are enjoying their affectionate, energetic boy--pronouncing him wonderful, the perfect Sheltie for their family.
LONNIE -- Winter 2005. This adorable 4yo Sheltie-Spaniel X was found wandering alone in Santa Fe and ended up in a high kill shelter. Our rescuer got him out in the nick of time. He came into the program covered in dirt and too thin. He knows basic obedience commands; is very responsive and sweet. His rescuer and the clinic staff fell instantly in love with this boy: he charms everyone who meets him. While he and his rescuer were waiting in the clinic for his exam, Lonnie put his head on her knee and stayed very close to her, his beautiful eyes wide with questions, wondering what had happened to him, but happy to be comforted by her gentle strokes. Lonnie is UTD now, but tested HW+ and had to go through the treatment, which he recovered from with no side effects Lonnie was thrilled to be in the program: his foster mom says he loves to cuddle and wants to be around his people all the time. He is now playful and one of the sweetest dogs his veteran foster home had worked with in seven years. As soon as he was available, Lonnie was adopted by his forever home who, like everyone else who knows Lonnie, are completely smitten by this wonderful boy: his mom writes,
"Just wanted to say how happy we are with our new puppy. He is such a gentleman!  We all fell instantly and hopelessly in love with him, and he with us. He is learning to walk on a leash. His favorite thing to do is sit by my glass patio door and watch the squirrels run the fence. Second is walking Sarah to school and seeing all the kids. He certainly knows the word 'go'. When I grab my purse, keys, and say 'do you want to go?', he jumps up and barks and runs to the front door. So cute! I could mush and gush, but I'll just say we are all happy campers!" Lonnie's family has re-named him Cody and adore this sweet boy who never leaves his mom's side.
LUCKY (Formerly Puddy) -- Winter 2005. Lucky is a beautiful 6yo red sable male who was an OR because the family wanted him to have a home with more time to spend with him. He is very good with other dogs, cats, and kids; enjoys walks and car rides; loves to cuddle. Lucky did so beautifully in his foster home that they quickly adopted him. He now lives in Huntsville, enjoying his adoring family. His new mom writes, "Puddy is such a sweetie pie!  He rolls over for belly rubs, gives us Sheltie kisses, and loves to play catch with his plush toys. He also likes to play fetch with his ball in our fenced back yard. We've taken him for rides and walks, too. He is a very smart boy. I can't tell you how much it means to us to have such an adorable Sheltie companion. He is so sweet and, as my husband says, 'he is so eager to please!'  We absolutely adore him."
LUCKY GIRL -- This precious is one of Sierra's pups born Dec. 15, 2003.  All four pups were quickly adopted and are growing up in loving homes.

Before Adoption, all HSS Shelties are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and treated for initial ailments as possible within the scope of our rescue program.
