"No man can be condemned for owning a dog.
As long as he has a dog, he has a friend;
and the poorer he gets, the better friend he has."
~ Will Rogers

Baby -- Winter 2006 is an OR due to family move. He is a beautiful 6yo S/W, but was overweight at 46#; however, he quickly got into shape in foster care. Baby is super friendly and sweet; talkative and playful. His delighted foster mom writes, "I trimmed paws, clipped toenails, cut out some mats, groomed, bathed and blow-dried Baby last night. What a sweetheart!  He loved every minute of it, and what a GORGEOUS boy he is with his bright-enough-to-blind-you full white collar. It will not be difficult to take 'glamour' shots of him. He is so polite, attentive, friendly, knows basic commands, is housetrained, loves to ride in the car. His face is one of the prettiest I have ever seen." Baby is happily adopted into one of our HSS families and has Sheltie sibling, Lucky, also adopted from the program.
BADGER--this cutie is one of Sierra's pups, born Dec. 15, 2003.  All three pups were quickly adopted and are delighting their families.
BAILEY --  Winter 1999. Golden sable male, 17 months old when he was adopted; he is full of energy and  love. Bailey was adopted by a delighted family and has a wonderful forever home with 2 boys to play with.
BAILEY (formerly Wendy) -- Fall 2001. From the Spring-Klein area where she had been wandering for three weeks until someone called our program, she is Tri Female Sheltie with a thick dense coat and beautiful markings. She had been eating out of garbage cans and was positive for hook and round worms, but fortunately she tested HW-, though she had a set-back a year later as heartworm tests occasionally can be false negatives, and sometimes the preventatives fail. But she was successfully treated for the disease and sailed through. Bailey is now almost 4yo, smart (she did extremely well in her obedience class), active, and loving. Her adoring family pronounce her perfect and wonderful; she is their sweetheart who gets along well with their cat and sleeps in their bedroom. After weeks of being on her own and eating out of trash cans, this lovely girl is now safe and treated like a queen. Her mom and dad give us frequent updates, including her trips to Colorado for vacations. Bailey is a sweet, loving companion to them everywhere they go, and she no longer has to fear the streets, because now she sends us travel logs from her real adventures with mom and dad.

BAILEY 2 -- Fall 2002. 4yo neutered S/W OR from the west side, Bailey is good with kids and other pets; very calm and sweet. He needed grooming and trimming which his foster mom took care of, and is a gorgeous boy. Child in the family has developed allergies, and the family reluctantly relinquished Bailey to rescue so that he could have a new family. His foster mom says he is a perfect gentleman. Bailey has been adopted by a wonderful family and now lives in the country with his new family and Collie sibling.

BAILEY 3 -- Spring 2005. This adorable 2-3yo S/W boy was found as a stray in Magnolia, and, incredibly, even with signs and phone calls, no one claimed this healthy, gorgeous Sheltie. He is a very sweet, gentle boy who craves attention and loves to play with the resident Sheltie. In his new home, he got his heart's desire: a loving mom and devoted new sister, Princess (on the right). They are inseparable, even taking their snoozes together.
BAILEY 4 -- Summer 2005. This sweet boy was abandoned by his owner and rescued by a neighbor who got him into the program. Bailey is a beautiful 10mo S/W. His foster mom says he is precious, just the sweetest boy; a very lively youngster who never met a stranger. He had obviously not been house trained, which she corrected. Bailey came to the dog show and did very well with the activity level and greeting visitors to the booth. He is a great dog, but his foster mom says his youthful exuberance borders on hyperactivity: he needed a very savvy home willing to keep him very active, possibly work him in obedience, agility, or flyball, as this is a boy who will need lots of activities to keep his sharp brain and youthful body active. Bailey is now happily adopted and busy with his new life.
BANDIT -- Fall 2000.  [Formerly "Sean"] From Baytown, Bandit is now a 7yo Tri. He was turned into a high-kill shelter by the owner on his birthday, with heartworms and severe upper respiratory infection. He is very beautiful and sweet-natured, now with a gorgeous coat after rehab. He was apparently never allowed indoors and was fed only when the owners thought of it: he was as close to starvation as we've seen, yet despite his abuse, Bandit is loving, bright, and eager to please. We treated his respiratory infection and fed him a high-quality diet, which he responded to and gained needed weight. He then successfully went through heartworm treatments after initial setbacks because he was so ill. He has been adopted by one of our program veterinarians, whose children re-named him Bandit. Bandit has become the Sheltie he was meant to be, one of exceptional intelligence and joy.

BANDIT 2-- Winter 2003. 4 mo, Tri OR from Clear Lake. He is very sweet and gentle; good with kids, cats, and other dogs. Bandit is all puppy: likes to cuddle, play, and find stray socks to carry off. Bandit has been adopted by a delighted family who report he is eating well, learning to walk on leash, and getting tons of TLC from the entire family. His dad reports that Bandit is settling in well, is full of energy, and becoming quite a character. They recently came to the spring picnic and were all looking ecstatic. Bandit's dad is now our "Air Sheltie" pilot and recently made his first transport of one of our dogs from Austin.

BANDIT 3 -- Winter 2003. 1.5-2yo Tri male. He was found wandering alone on the SW side by a kind rescuer who kept him for several days; had him groomed, ran ads, and called area vets. Bandit did not have a collar or tags. This beautiful boy had hookworms and was HW+. He was successfully treated for both with no after effects. Bandit is housetrained, very sweet and gentle: freely gives Sheltie kisses, tail wagging delightedly. Everyone who meets him falls in love with this lovely boy. Bandit has been adopted by a family who also fell in love with him instantly and is enjoying his new home.

BANDIT 4 -- Summer 2003. Adorable 7yo Tri OR from West Houston; owner no longer had time for him. He came into the program over the July 4th Holiday weekend in perfect health, though he had been kept outside, so his coat needed to grow back in for its full beauty. He did beautifully with his foster home's other Shelties and their cats. Bandit is a friendly, sweet boy who came to the dog show and enjoyed all the treats and attention he received. On a recent trip to Galveston with his foster family, he clearly had a ball and is showing confidence and joy in his new life. Beautiful Bandit has been adopted by a family who saw him on the web site, visited with him, and fell completely in love with this darling boy; Ashes was also adopted by this family, and the boys now have one another's companionship in addition to a devoted family.

BARON (Baron Von Zephyr) --  Spring 2003. 5yo Tri Male OR from Missouri City, TX. Baron loves his humans and gets along great with all dogs and cats. He is on the quiet, mellow side but also loves his Frisbee, tennis balls, walks, being brushed and chest rubs. Baron is quite accomplished, knowing basic obedience, sit, down, rollover, Bang!, whisper, speak, shake, and gives a High 5. Baron  would make a great Pet Therapy Dog. He recently attended a Pet Therapy visit. He charmed Nursing Home Residents with his many tricks and approached the seniors in wheelchairs for petting and attention. He is very sweet to all humans and dogs that he meets. Baron has been adopted by one of our long-time families who are ecstatic with their new boy.

BASIL (AKA Sugarfoot)  -- Spring 2003. 4yo S/W OR from Houston. He is an adorable boy, well cared for and freshly groomed by his former owner. Basil has a gorgeous full collar and nice blaze. His rescuer says he loves to cuddle, loves to be groomed, and is too incredibly cute. He did need work on housetraining, which his delighted foster home worked on. Because the match was already perfect, Basil and his new family decided he was already home and made the adoption official. He was joined the next year by his Sheltie sister, Precious, also adopted from our program.

BAUER -- Winter 2002. OR from the west side; owners care deeply about him but felt he wasn't getting enough attention in their busy schedules. Bauer is a gorgeous 3 1/2yo Tri, who enjoyed his foster care during the holidays. His foster mom says he's one of the most beautiful Shelties she's ever seen. She also reports that Bauer is extremely active and might do well in agility and flyball. He craves attention (he's a snuggler), loves to play, very eager to please. Bauer's new family adores him and are looking forward to working him in agility classes.

BEAUX -- (Formerly Timmie).  Summer 2002. OR from Bryan, Beaux came into the program with his brother, Buddie. A beautiful 3yo Tri male, Beaux has a distinct blaze and is very muscular. Beaux is an exuberant Sheltie who is very loving with people. He's actually quite self-confident, but he is camera shy except when he can pose with a Sheltie pal.  He likes belly rubs and ear scratches, and dearly loves his walks. Beaux has been adopted by HSS volunteers who had been admiring him on our web site and came to meet him at the dog show. He now has mom, dad, and brother, Doogan to love him the rest of his life.
BEAUX 2 -- Summer 2005 This beautiful 9yo, 15", 30#, S/W boy with a nice blaze and collar is an OR due to family's move. He is in our clinic; is now UTD, neutered, and tested HW-. He has a sweet, gentle disposition, so it's hard to believe someone shot him: BB's were found embedded in his ear, and he lost the hearing there. But his family adores him and is working with his hearing loss and arthritis. Beaux has been adopted by his thrilled family and now has foster brother Alex (renamed Honey Boy), also adopted from our program. Honey Boy loves having a companion. In the picture, Alex is on the left; Beaux on the right.
BELLA -- Summer 2003. OR along with her brother Vito (now Duncan). A lovely 2yo Tri, Bella is a self-confident, sweet, active girl who popped right into her foster home and into their hearts as though she had always lived with them. She and they decided she was already home, so Bella now has a new dad and Sheltie brothers: of course, Bella is the queen of her castle.
BELLA 2 (Formerly Belle) -- Spring 2005. This beauty came into the program from BARC. She is a 2yo tri female with great markings.  Bella loves stuffed animals, attention, hugs, and kisses. She was snapped up quickly by her delighted new home: she is the "Belle of the Ball" with her mom and dad. They love her so much: dad is "in his glory" as she has bonded quickly to them both. Since she is young, she is active, funny, playful; enjoying all her yummy chews and evening walks with dad.

BERNIE -- Spring 2002.  2yo Bi-Black male from Lufkin Shelter. He was so filthy from being in a cage they at first thought he was a Tri. He had been there for a couple of months before the shelter posted him; we saw him immediately, and our foster home there pulled him in. He is incredibly sweet and grateful to be sprung from the shelter; loves to snuggle, is good with other dogs and with kids. He prefers to hang out with the family: a definite people dog. Bernie has been adopted by long-time HSS members, Cindy and Jay, who pulled him from the shelter: it was total love and bonding from the first day.

BETSY (for Betsy Ross because she was an Independence Day rescue) -- Summer 2002.  Adorable 7yo Tri female from Montgomery County Service Center. Seriously cute foxy little girl who, unfortunately, tested HW+, but because she was anemic from heavy flea infestation and had skin infections, she could not start HW treatment for a couple of weeks. She completed the treatments and responded well with no side effects. Betsy is very sweet, loves to play with toys, and to romp with the resident Sheltie, Zak. Betsy has been adopted by a long-time HSS member and volunteer, Peggy, who fell in love with her, took her in, and began working with her. Though Betsy has developed some very serious orthopedic problems, her mom is undaunted and doing everything she can to make Betsy comfortable and well loved.

BIANCA -- Fall 2004. Found in Hockley, this precious, innocent pup, unbelievably lost all on her own, came into the program at only about 7-8 weeks old and 6# through her kind finder contacting us. She had hooks, roundworms, and sarcoptic mange and was in isolation in our clinic several days until the contagion was cured. She is now a healthy half-grown pup and is a happy, active girl. She came to the  anniversary picnic where she had a ball. Bianca was adopted shortly after and is now living a wonderful life in her loving forever home.

BLAKE -- Fall 2004. We heard about this precious boy on death row at an area shelter. Our wonderful volunteers, Sandra and Wayne, made the three-hour drive to pull him just in time, or he would have died in a gas chamber. Blake is 3-4yo, S/W who came into the program HW+. He also had an URI we treated first; then he handled the HW treatment just fine. Blake is a great dog: with kind eyes and a gentle demeanor; friendly and responsive. His foster family says he is a complete love sponge: very very sweet and loves his plush squeaky toys; he is one of their favorite fosters. Blake and his foster sibling Dorie (now adopted) had a great Christmas with them, and the family's holiday guests were very impressed with both dogs. Blake is now happily living in his loving forever home with the wonderful life he deserves.
BLAZE -- Spring 2005. Blaze & his siblings came into the program when they lost their home. Blaze is a stunning 7yo Blue Merle; he was the first of the three to give his rescuer kisses and is a delightful boy. Blaze is a sweet, well mannered gentleman who loves human attention and will give sheltie kisses in return. He has the most beautiful gait to watch. He almost looks like a show horse with a fancy, emphasized trot. He gets along well with the resident dogs, but prefers human companionship and playtimes. He is a quiet, calm dog and he rarely barks. Like his siblings, Blaze was quickly adopted and is enjoying a wonderful new home.

BLUE -- Fall 2002. OR from West Houston; gorgeous, 21-month blue merle male.  Blue is obedience, crate, and house trained. He is friendly and obedient with adults; enjoys other dogs, carries himself like a champion, is extremely active. Blue has been adopted by a wonderful family, now has mom, dad, brother, and a new baby sister. He is enjoying his walks and playing fetch. Blue is devoted to his kids as well as to his mom and dad; he is a constant source of joy to them all.
